SUBJECT: Declaration of Container Freight Station of M/s. Container Corporation of India Ltd., at SURVEY NO.135/2, KADAPPERI VILLAGE, TAMBARAM, KANCHEEPURAM DISTRICT within MEPZ-SEZ, CHENNAI as Customs Area for Export/Import goods – Regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (b) of Section 8 of Customs Act, 1962, the undersigned hereby declares an area measuring 10,862.49 Sq.Mtrs. situated at Survey No.135/2,, Kadapperi Village, Tambaram, Kancheepuram District within MEPZ-SEZ as a Container Freight Station and M/s. CONTAINER CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD., as the custodian of goods in the Container Freight Station for the purpose of storage, examination, loading/stuffing of Export Cargo into containers and examination, unloading/destuffing of all full Container Load Import cargo from Containers.

DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA AND LOCATION:


The Area of CFS admeasuring 10,862.49 Sq. Mtrs. which is situated at SURVEY NO.135/2, KADAPPERI VILLAGE, TAMBARAM, KANCHEEPURAM DISTRICT within MEPZ-SEZ, Chennai, which was already declared as Customs Station under Section 9 of Customs Act, 1962.

DIMENSIONS OF THE CFS:
WEST : 98.60 MTRS.
EAST : 118.00 MTRS.
SOUTH : 107.60 MTRS.
NORTH : 93.00 MTRS.
2. The Custodian shall provide safe, secure and spacious premises for loading/unloading/storing of the cargo.

3. The goods shall be insured with the insurance covering the value of the goods, duty of Customs and also against the risk of fire and theft. The Insurance Policy shall be pledged in favour of the Commissioner of Customs (Airport), Air Cargo Complex, Meenambakkam, Chennai 600 027.

4. The Custodian shall abide by all the rules and regulations under the Custom Act, 1962.

5. The Custodian shall execute a bond equal to the average duty involved on the goods likely to be stored in the premises for a period of 30 days.

6. The Container Freight Station will remain under the charge of M/s. Container Corporation of India Ltd., Survey No. 135/2, Kadapperi Village, Tambaram, Kancheepuram District. The Warehouse Manager of the said Corporation is hereby appointed as the Warehouse Keeper under Section 62 of the Customs Act, 1962 to collect Rent and Warehouse Charges.

7. Security arrangements for the safety of the goods shall be the responsibility of M/s. Container Corporation of India Ltd.

8. The Custodian shall not charge any rent/demurrage on the goods detained by the Customs Department. The Customs Department shall pay the rent to the custodian only after the ownership of the goods vests in the Government after confiscation. The rate of rent for such goods shall be fixed by the Commissioner of Customs in consultation with CPWD or local Revenue or Rent Control Authorities.

9. M/s. Container Corporation of India Ltd., shall be liable under the Customs Act, 1962, to compensate this department in the event of any loss or wrong release of the bonded goods.

10. Duration of this appointment shall be for 5 years and subject to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Customs. Commissioner of Customs shall have the right to terminate the appointment at any time after assigning specific reasons and giving an opportunity to M/s. Container Corporation of India Ltd to explain their case. The appointment shall be reviewed every 5 years.

11. This Public Notice comes into force with immediate effect.
